We’re livingunprecedented times where we have to reformulate many aspects in our lives andwhere we’re appreciating everything we used to take for granted and now seemslike distant experiences we would do anything to recover. Travels are a thingthat has always moved the deepest fibers in a person, they’re the experiencesthat make us become someone else and see the world with different eyes.
With everything we’regoing through right now, we’re learning a valuable lesson: to learn to livewith ourselves. Many of us are living this quarantine alone and every day is achallenge in which we have to like ourselves, and with any luck, we’rerealizing we’re actually having a good time, that even though we appreciate thecompany of our loved ones more than ever, we enjoy our loneliness and ourindividuality. And this is why there is no better time to decide of doing thatsolo trip that you’ve always thought of but never dared to do.
A solo travel givesyou tremendous freedom, you’re not depending on anyone’s schedules or tastes. No one will judge you if one day you feel like you need a couple more hours ofsleep and come out of your hotel at 11 in the morning, and the best part, you’ll be able to have only what you really like for breakfast and wherever youfeel like to. At times it’s hard to agree between a group of people on thesethings and you will probably end up giving up what you’d have wanted just toplease someone else.
The same happens withtourist attractions, you will go exclusively to those places that draw yourattention, without losing 3 hours in an archeology museum you’re not reallyinto but everyone else thinks it’s a must because it’s culturally appropriate.
Besides, we’re sure itwill be great for you to open up your senses and be much more alert. You won’tbe able to leave formalities and procedures to someone else, you’ll have tolearn to do it yourself. Since checking in and taking a taxi from the airport tolearning the basic phrases of a new language and figuring out the subway linefor yourself, without depending on your dad, your boyfriend or your mostexperienced friends. Pure growth!
But the most importantof all, by traveling solo you will get to know so much more than statues andpaintings. You’ll get lost and you’ll have to take local transportation, you’llhave to ask for directions and that will give you an excuse to talk to locals;by eating or having a drink by yourself you’ll have no other choice than makingfriends with the people at the next table and this is priceless. Knowing aplace through its people and the real experiences they give you is what willlinger forever in your memory.
