We all miss beingoutside, just the thought of a park or a shopping mall seems as distant asdesirable, things that we took for granted and didn’t really appreciate. Evenmore, a trip is on the top of our post-pandemic wish list. But we have to beclear on something, we can’t keep traveling the same way, we can’t keepconsuming like we used to do, in less words, we just can’t keep on living likewe did.
If this quarantine weall in the world are living in can be useful for something, that’s reflectingand appreciating what we have. And once this is over, we’ll return totraveling, but we can’t go back to normal.
One of the trends thatwere heading this 2020 in tourism is the experiential learning. This is thetourist who relates travels with life lessons, and there’s no better time forthis than now. This means knowing little explored places, immerse into thelocal culture and not living half experiences, to learn first-hand the costumes and habits of the natives andeven, to enrich yourself with volunteering and spirituality.
This is a kind oftourism that will make us more conscious about our world, more open to the varietyin it and more capable of being sympathetic to what surrounds us.
Something that we mustalways have in our mind is that we don’t have to wait that long to travel andsacrifice with huge savings to be able to make that trip. We need to know thatan unknown and incredible destination can be just outside our city. We have tobe more of a supporter of a quick weekend getaway, they’re easy to do, cheapand enlighten us and take us out of our routine for a couple of days, but thefeeling inside will linger for quite a while.
One more thing we’velearned throughout this pandemic is that life is undervalued, that we mustenjoy to the fullest like this was our last day and that we must not leave fortomorrow the things that make us happy. This is why another trend for tourismonce this is over, is the extreme tourism. We need to feel alive and feel ourveins filled with adrenaline, giving us that rush for living. Reach for extremeand different experiences that you never thought of doing!
It’s true that morethan ever, we appreciate the company of our loved ones now, but we’re alsolearning to live with ourselves, to enjoy our loneliness and individuality andto find out that we can have a good time with ourselves. That’s why you mustnot ignore the idea of a solo travel. You know now how to hang out withyourself, you might as well do it on the other side of the world! The lesson welearn from traveling alone is one with no comparison.
One problem we’vedealt with for years is the over-tourism. The exaggerated arrival of touristsinto the same spot and the following wearing out of the local population, thecrowding of the public space and the rising of the rent costs are negativefactors of our massified way of traveling. Now we should adjust our vacationsand do it in more authentic, local, economic destinations, that will provide a different point of view, one that noteveryone knows.
Anyway we travel, wemust be more sympathetic, compassionate, we must help out the one in need, itdoesn’t matter if they’re not from our country, we’re all one same humanity. Wehave to be conscious about the damage that an irresponsible tourism means tonature and minimize our footprint as much as we can. We shouldn’t even have tosay that we must not contaminate beaches, rivers and forests, to be extremelycautious with what may imply a hazard for a wildfire, to respect the animalsand our consumptions. All of this willresult, little by little, in a new normal, one that will be more respectfulwith our ambiance and ourselves. We’ve been given the biggest lesson of our lives and it cannotpass unnoticed, this time we must change.
