The Day of the Dead is an exceptional tradition troughout Mexico that's been around for so many years generating experiences and nice memories but in recent years it's stronger than ever, in part thanks to the Disney movie Coco that portrayed so authentically what the tradition in the Mexican towns is and very magically what the world of the Dead and this day are about; and social media has come to play a very important role in the rise of this holiday since it has managed to popularize the catrina makeup all around the world, being a key character for this celebration.
Puerto Vallarta is no exception and we go overboard when it comes to celebrate Día de Muertos and judging by what we've seen, this year will be more spectacular than ever.
Each year the Malecón is the main venue for this holiday and 2022 is coming with everything because the local government has presented the Day of the Dead Festival and this time will not only be surrounded by catrinas but a very special and gigantic catrina will be the leading character since it has the Guinnes record as the highest in the world, located next to the lighthouse. On top of this, they're doing things we had never seen before, like the skeleton version of the Beatles, with their iconic red phone booth, tons of skulls on different colors and designs, a collection of antique cars that will make your jaw drop and an overall ambiance that will satisfy the pickiest of tourists.
The rest of the activities will be the Museum of Mummies expo, "Death through your eyes in Puerto Vallarta". On October 31st will be able to enjoy the Folkloric Cuauhtemoc Ballet and the play Aladdin and the Magic Lamp at the outdoor theater in Los Arcos del Malecón. At Ixtapa they'll have the celebration of the altar and living catrinas contest. On November 2nd the show "The Historical Evolution of the Day of the Dead" will be performing and a La Llorona musical with tenors from Guadalajara will follow, besides there will be the measurement of the huge catrina in order to get the Guinness record and finish with a spectacle of fireworks and a videomapping.
The perfect hotel option to celebrate these days is the one that's right in the middle of all the action, and that's the classic hotels Rosita and El Pescador. Two completely family oriented option that are in the Malecón area and not only are beachfront but you'll be able to enjoy all of these Día de Muertos activities only a few steps away from your hotel door.
This wonderful celebration will start on October 27th through November 5th so don't hesitate on coming over to Puerto Vallarta and spend a Day of the Dead like you never lived it before.
